Letter from Keith Davidson Dec 2006
My brother Paul and I have done further research on our family tree and passed the
detail on to those of the next generation who are interested., We haven’t found much
to add to the Tarbit tree apart from discovering that the great fire in Wooler of I863
started in the thatched roof of the Three Half Moons run by our ancestor, George
Tunnah . He is listed as the innkeeper in Wooler street guides of the 1850s but only as a Tailor later. From dates and locations, George’s parents may have been James Tunnah (b abt 1784 in Chatton nr Fowberry, nr Wooler, died 1879?) and Jane/Jean Riddle who were married in Wooler on 22/5/1809- His daughter Jane Ann Tunnah (1838 - 1899) married John Tarbit(1838-
1918)in 1862,just 3 months before the fire. Peggy Tarbit inherited a grandfather
clock made in Wooler by a clock maker who was there in th 1850s (James Brodie). I wonder if it was part of Jane Tunnah's dowry and if it once stood in the Three Half Moons.
