Notes for Thomas (Spouse 1)
When Thomas & Anne married in 1852 Thomas was living at Union St Pendleton. He was a dyer. In 1861 Thomas & Anne were at 3 Miners Row, Pendleton. Still at Marriage ref: reg dist barton-upon-Tiwell, parish of Eccles, County of lancaster #272. Witnesses William BANHAM & Nancy RAMSDEN
3 Miners Row in 1863 when Thomas was born; but in 1871 Thomas & (Mary??) were at 4 Union St. Thomas was then a cord dresser. Anne's address at the time of her marriage was Ashton St Pendleton. Witness to the marriage was Nancy Ramsden.
1861 Census shows Anne as cotton weaver.
1871 Census living at 4 Union St Pendleton. Thomas is a cord dresser. The wife is shown as "Mary". Cannot find any evidence of Anne dying and Thomas remarrying, so this may be a mistake. John is not mentioned in Census. Eliza is a cotton spinner, Hannah a cotton spinner and Thomas junior- a scholar.

1871Census: 4 Union St, Pendleton RG 10 4010 Folio 27, Pendleton.
WAIN Thomas, head, married, 40 Cord dresser, born Pendleton.
WAIN Mary* wife, married, 39, born Pendleton.
WAIN Eliza, daughter, 16, cotton spinner, born Pendleton.
WAIN Hannah daughter, unmarried, 13, cotton spinner, born Pendleton
WAIN Thomas A. son, scholar, 7, born Pendleton
WAIN William, son, 2, born Pendleton
WAIN James, son 2 mths, born Pendleton.
I can find no sign of the family on the 1881 Census except for John aged 29 who was living in Yorkshire. Thomas had emigrated in 1880 to Queensland.

Then I looked for the children as they appear on the 1871 Censu... all
born at Pendleton. John c1852, Eliza c1854, Hannah c1858, Thomas 1863
(well we know about him!) William c1869 and James c1871. This all
and I have considered that the Census may have had the wrong year of
birth and even the county might be wrongly recorded. Wife MARY !
